Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, formerly known as Morrison & MacKay, is a family-owned whisky company rooted in Perth, Scotland, with origins dating back to the 1980s. Founded in 1982 as John Murray & Co. by the Bartholomew family on the Isle of Mull, the company initially focused on whisky liqueurs like Columba Cream, often referred to as 'Scotland's answer to Bailey's.' In 1996, they established the Scottish Liqueur Centre in Bankfoot, Perth, which served as both a production facility and visitor center. In 2005, former Morrison Bowmore directors Kenny MacKay and Rob Starling, along with Brian and Jamie Morrison, led a management buy-in of the business. Kenny MacKay and Brian Morrison had significant ties to the whisky industry, making this transition pivotal.
Under new ownership, the company expanded its offerings, introducing single malt bottlings like the Celebration of The Cask range. In 2013, they acquired the Old Perth brand and relaunched it as a blended malt whisky. The company name was changed to Morrison & MacKay in 2014 to reflect its commitment to bottling. They continued to expand their portfolio with releases like Big Strand Islay single malt and Kirkwall Bay Orkney single malt.
In April 2017, the company relocated to a purpose-built facility in Aberargie, south of Perth, and later that year, Brian and Jamie Morrison constructed the independently operated Aberargie single malt distillery adjacent to their headquarters.
In 2020, Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers underwent a brand identity transformation, re-launching the Càrn Mòr range with a fresh look and packaging. They also reintroduced the Old Perth range of blended malt scotch, the Bruadar Single Malt Liqueur, and launched the Mac-Talla range of Islay Single Malt Whiskies. This transformation marked a significant step for the Morrison family, with Brian Morrison and Jamie Morrison carrying on a rich legacy in the Scotch Whisky Industry, stemming from their deep connections to the industry's history and heritage.
