Glenglassaugh distillery, located near Portsoy in Northeast Scotland, has a storied history of resilience and revival. Established in 1875 by James Moir and his nephews, the distillery initially aimed to produce high-quality whisky to meet the demands of Moir's grocery business. However, it faced several closures during the 20th century due to economic challenges in the whisky industry.

After periods of dormancy and multiple ownership changes, the distillery seemed destined to remain closed permanently until it was acquired by Stuart Nickerson in 2006, with backing from Russian investors. The distillery quickly turned its fortunes around, thanks to a loyal international fan base and innovative offerings such as immature casks of spirit for private customers.

In 2013, Glenglassaugh was purchased by The BenRiach Distillery Co. and later became part of Brown-Forman Corporation's portfolio in 2016. Despite its turbulent history, Glenglassaugh continues to produce exceptional single malt Scotch whisky, emphasizing its coastal character influenced by its proximity to Sandend Bay.
