Balmenach Distillery, steeped in history and tradition, traces its origins back to 1824 when James MacGregor obtained a license to distill on what was once a farm. The distillery's intriguing beginnings are intertwined with a visit from a local gauger and the clever transformation of a peat shed into a licensed production site. Over the years, Balmenach became part of Scotch Malt Distillers, the malt production arm of DCL, and underwent expansion, including the addition of a Saladin maltings. After a brief period of mothballing between 1993 and 1997, it found its current home under the ownership of Inver House, where it not only crafts fine Scotch whisky but also produces Caorunn Gin.
