Allt-a-Bhainne, which means "burn of milk" in Gaelic, takes its name from the nearby water source. The distillery stands as a unique and modernist anomaly in the traditional Speyside whisky landscape. Established by Seagram in 1975, it emerged during a period of burgeoning optimism in the Scotch industry. Seagram, the Canadian firm that also owned Chivas Regal, was expanding its production capacity at the time. Throughout its history, Allt-a-Bhainne has experienced periods of dormancy, with the most recent hiatus occurring between 2003 and 2005. However, in response to the global surge in demand for Scotch whisky, its owner, Chivas Brothers, has reactivated the distillery to full production, solidifying its place in the evolving whisky world.
