Aberargie Distillery represents a return to the art of distilling for the Morrison family, known for their involvement in the whisky industry. Led by Stanley P. Morrison's son, Brian, and grandson, Jamie, the family acquired a majority stake in the Scottish Liqueur Centre in Bankfoot, Perth, in 2005. They initially nurtured liqueur brands like Bruadar and Columba Cream. The venture later evolved into Morrison & Mackay, delving into Scotch whisky blending and bottling under the Carn Mor range. In 2014, they revived the Old Perth brand.

During this period, Morrison & Mackay sought to expand its operations and acquired a 300-acre farm in Aberargie, a nearby village where they had been cultivating barley for maltsters. In 2014, they gained approval for constructing a blending and bottling facility on the farm. Simultaneously, plans were set in motion for a separate distillery to be exclusively owned and operated by the Morrison family under The Perth Distilling Company, thanks to their majority stake in Morrison & Mackay.

The ambitious project commenced in June 2016, with distilling trials conducted in October 2017, marking a significant milestone when Aberargie Distillery filled its inaugural cask on November 1. This endeavor signifies a compelling return to the art of whisky-making for the Morrison family.
